A trip to the Glucksman Gallery in Cork city for 2nd , 5th and 6th year students. It was a wonderful trip and the students were given a guided tour of the exhibits and learned about the process of creating art in the environment.
The Tipperary County Museum came to our school to teach students abut archeology. The students learned how to carefully dig an area to uncover hidden treasures and were given a fantastic talk about the value of archeological digs by Julia in the museum.
LCA students from Colaiste Chluain Meala went on their first outing on Tuesday 6th of September to the University Limerick water activities centre. The day is used as a bonding excerise each year and the students participate fully . They had a wonderful time and enjoyed the experience. They learned kayaking and paddle boarding and it was brilliant fun. It was a great introduction to the water sports and hopefully the students may consider repeating the experience in the future.
Coláiste Chluain Meala was delighted to discover that all the hard work of the students and caretaking staff was rewarded on our return to school in August .The Green Committee was set up officially with a new group of students in September 2015. They got involved in the Neat Street programme which is a stepping stone towards achieving the Green Flag for our school. Throughout the year the group worked on introducing a recycling facility that worked efficiently in our school. We also introduced composting into our school. The green committee were awarded the Neat Street award during May 2016 in a ceremony held in Croke Park.
Continuing on from this success we entered the Tidy Schools competition which is organised by Tipperary County Council, in which we were awarded first place on our return to school at the end of August 2016. We are going to apply for the green flag during the coming weeks and hope that we will be awarded with our flag during May 2017. A thank you to the care taking staff of the school.
The students council is up and running, the president is Laura Regan with Brandon Smith our PRO. Last year we were presented with the Amber Flag an award which we were delighted to achieve after promoting positive mental health in our school environment. This year one of our aims is promoting health, diet and wellbeing. This year three students attached to our students council are attending the Comhairle na nOg AGM this October and the theme for this year is Diet and Wellness.
