Central Technical Institute, Clonmel

Central Technical Institute

The Central Technical Institute, Clonmel is a college of Tipperary (SR) VEC which in turn comprises three distinct educational entities:

Coláiste Chluain Meala

The original Central Technical Institute started in 1842 in what is now Mulcahy House on Anglesea Street. After some time - in the the mid 1900's - a dedicated premises was constructed on the present site on The Mall. After further expansion an extra campus was opened in 1982 on Raheen Road.

With the passing of time, increased enrolement and greater specialisation of courses, the regular 2nd level component of the Institute was moved to Raheen Road which in the early 2000's was officially renamed Coláiste Chluain Meala to assist with the differentiation of the elements of the overall CTI.

The Senior College

The Senior College grew out of not just the original CTI but the increased demand for further education either as a vocational alternative to College, or as is increasingly the case, as a preparation for college. Courses are internationally certified by FETAC, the International Academy of Travel and others.

The College is a full time adult college based solely in The Mall, is recognised as a centre of excellence and has experience developing cutting edge subjects and courses.

Gaelcholáiste Chéitinn

In 2004 after much preparation and enormous staff and public cooperation Gaelcholáiste Chéitinn finally opened its doors to the student body amongst the public that prefer to continue their second level education as Gaeilge.

Úsáidter an Gaelige formhór den am, le haghaidh ranganna agus gnath cursaí; agus de réir sin tá fíor seans ag na daltaí pairt a glacadh le fíor cultúr an tír seo.

Specialist rooms of the Senior College are used by the Gaelcholáiste as required, but largely the choláiste has its own accommodation with an 8-room extension due to open in September 2009.
